Why are sensory bags beneficial to toddlers?

Sensory play bags are a fantastic way to engage your toddler’s senses and promote their development in a variety of areas.

These bags typically contain a mix of materials that your child can touch, squish, and manipulate, such as colored water, beads, or sand.

Here are a few reasons why sensory play bags are so beneficial for toddlers:

Encourages sensory exploration: Sensory play bags provide a safe and contained environment for toddlers to explore new textures, colors, and sensations.

These Sensory Activities for Dental Health are great as a starting point and even perfect for toddlers! Preschoolers are at a prime age to start learning about the importance of taking care of their teeth.

Stimulates creativity and imagination: Sensory play bags are open-ended, which means that there is no one “right” way to play with them.

This encourages your toddler to use their imagination and come up with their own unique ways to interact with the contents of the bag.

Helps with emotional regulation: Sensory play can be very soothing for young children, and can help them to regulate their emotions when they are feeling upset or overwhelmed.

These frugal sensory bins are perfect for younger kids and babies!

By providing a calming sensory experience, sensory play bags can help to reduce stress and anxiety in toddlers.

As they manipulate the contents of the bag, they are developing their sense of touch and fine motor skills.

Are these bags really mess free?

Sensory play bags can be a mess-free alternative to traditional sensory play activities, such as playing with sand or water.

These bags are designed to contain the materials inside, preventing spills and minimizing clean-up.

However, it’s important to note that sensory bags are not completely mess-free, and some materials may still escape or leak if the bag is punctured or torn.

I love using different activities to target, check out this Fine Motor Skills Color Recognition Game too.

To minimize the risk of messes, it’s important to choose sensory bag materials that are less likely to leak or spill, such as small plastic beads or dry rice.

It’s also a good idea to supervise your child closely while they are playing with the bag, and to avoid giving them the bag if it is damaged or showing signs of wear and tear.

Squeeze your hair gel into one Ziploc baggie.

Make sure you put enough in there so that when the bag is laying flat, you can easily squish it through.

But also not too much. In my gallon sized bag I put 4-5 tablespoons of hair gel.

Make sure you seal the bag really well, you can also double bag it.

I inserted two colours of pom poms into each sensory bag and taped it to hard cardboard (or you can use a recycled cardboard box).

This is so it makes the activity easy to carry around.

These alerting sensory activities are perfect for preschoolers.

How do you erase the label on a ziplock bag?

Here’s a handy tip I never knew – I used nail polish remover to get rid of the annoying packaging label on the front or back of the ziplock bag.

I never thought it’d work – but it did. Try it! 🙂

Once you’ve sticky taped the printable to the back of the sensory bag, be sure to use painter’s tape to secure it to the cardboard.

I used yellow coloured cardboard because I didn’t have an old cardboard box to use. Of all times right?

It’s a great fine motor task as the kids squish the pom poms to place them onto the corresponding ‘bunny noses’.

Overall, sensory play bags are a fun and educational way to engage your toddler’s senses and promote their development in a variety of areas.

I would highly recommend giving them a try!

Overall, while sensory bags may not be completely mess-free, they are certainly less messy than many other sensory play activities.

And can be a great option for parents looking for a fun and low-maintenance way to engage their child’s senses.
