Once you have your list of words, create a printable craft with the words arranged right on the poster paper to match the words on the sun.

The worksheet should include a large circle in the center to represent the sun, they can then paste the sun template there.

Around the sun, create sunrays with blank spaces for the sight words. Print out multiple copies of this worksheet for each student.

The template comes blank, and you can write the sight words on the board, have the kids copy the words onto the sun.

They will then add each sight word onto a ‘ray’ of sunshine, then cut and paste it onto the template to build the craft.

Why is teaching new sight words important for kids?

Learning sight words is crucial for young children to become proficient readers.

Sight words, also known as high-frequency words or service words, are the words that appear most frequently in written language.

Here are some ways to help kids learn sight words:

Importance of Sight Words: Explain to children the importance of sight words in reading and writing.

Word Wall: Create a word wall in the classroom or at home with the new sight words. Review the words regularly and encourage children to use them in sentences.

End of the Year Review: At the end of the school year, review all of the sight words learned throughout the year. This helps reinforce previously learned words and prepares them for the next level of reading.

Word Search: Create a word search puzzle with sight words. This helps children recognize the words and become familiar with the spelling.

Teaching words related to unicorns with this unicorn word search is so much fun. Students will learn unicorn words and vocabulary, writing and spelling these words too.

Flashcards: Use flashcards to practice new sight words. Flashcards are a great way to reinforce recognition and memorization of new words.

Sight Word Bingo: Play Sight Word Bingo with a group of children. This is a fun way to learn new words and reinforce recognition.

Interactive Games: Use interactive games to make learning sight words more engaging. Websites such as ABCya and Starfall offer free educational games for children.

Read-Alouds: Read books that contain sight words to children. This helps children recognize the words in context and understand their meaning.

Rhyming: Teach sight words through rhyming. For example, if the new sight word is “at,” rhyming words like “bat,” “cat,” and “rat” can be used to help children recognize and memorize the word.
