Let me tell you a short story about how I used to teach sight words compared to what I do now.
As a new teacher, I was eager to make a difference in the lives of my students.
I had read about the importance of teaching sight words, so I created worksheets for my class to practice.
I was convinced that this was the best way to help them learn, but I soon realized that my students found it incredibly boring.
The first time I handed out the worksheets, I saw utter disappointment on my students’ faces.

The first time I handed out the worksheets, I saw a look of disappointment on my students’ faces.
They were used to the fun and exciting activities that their previous teacher had incorporated into her lessons, but my worksheets were dull and monotonous.
And this was all done in a short period of time in that small window that I had at home when I got back.

I was feeling super tired everyday and I honestly did NOT want to do anything related to the computer.
However, I knew that if I didn’t, my days at school would be much worse.
As the weeks went on, I noticed that my students were losing interest in learning sight words.
They would complain about having to do the worksheets and some would even avoid doing them altogether.
It was frustrating for me because I thought I was doing everything right.
One day, a student named Alex came up to me after class and said, “Ms. Johnson, can we do something different to learn sight words? These worksheets are so boring.”
His words hit me hard, and I realized that I needed to change my approach.

I did some research and found a variety of fun and engaging activities to teach sight words.
I incorporated games, songs, and interactive activities into my lessons, and I could see a significant improvement in my students’ engagement and understanding of sight words.
Looking back, I realized that my students were right.
My worksheets were boring and did not capture their attention. It is actually what led me to create these pages and MORE on my blog.
