Reading CVC Words

Firstly, there are many ways to begin to teach CVC reading, I’d encourage you to begin where the child is. You can’t teach CVC reading if they still haven’t mastered beginning letter sounds. Once they master this, you can begin to incorporate blending letter sounds and short vowel sounds. A great way to encourage reading CVC words is by tapping each sound using and motor activity like clapping hands, tapping on pop it fidget toys and more!

Start by listening for sounds in letters and words, have them play I spy with my little eye, play match the word and picture, find the missing sounds etc.

The important thing is to start at where the child is at and go from there.

How to use this printable

You will defintely need a bunch of Hole punchers (set of 12), these I found to be the best when using these printables with students in the classroom, it will also depend on whether you’re able to share these in a group / individual use.

I LOVE using hole punchers – they are so much fun for kids and best of all, they are quick to setup and play! Use these mats to help kids learn to read and identify CVC short vowel words by identifying rhyming vowel sounds. We know that with learning, repetition and practice is key. Kids will be motivated to identify their CVC words short vowel sounds using these fun mats.

I love incorporating rhyming games in class and at home. Kids repsond really well to games. . Learn more about to how use these cards right there and download your printable!
