How can you use a hole puncher to practice counting skills? Well, my friends, if you haven’t been introduced to one of these tools in the classroom just yet. It’s a gem! Kids and adults alike LOVE the hole puncher.

There are simple ways to use hole punchers, but the easiest activity to do with them is to use them for counting or behaviour coupons. I love handing out a few hole punchers in each group and then the kids use the hole punchers to count and hole punch each clover on each page and complete the sentence.

Have the kids color each page and then read the sentence, and fill in the math sentence:

“I see _______ shamrocks.”

After they have filled in the sentence and written the number digit, they will count the shamrocks / clovers and then use a hole puncher to show their answers.

You could alternatively have them color in the clovers instead, if you find that the kids are struggling to use the hole puncher.
