Addition game math activity: Addition math activity game mat with logs and toads for kindergarten and first grade kids. Use a fun game to help children practice their addition skills using this free game.
Hi all!! How much fun would it be to use a game to practice addition skills? I love to make new games to help my students with math — especially those kiddos who need more help. 🙂
I will be sharing a fun and free group activity you can use in small groups or even one-on-one.
What you’ll need:
- scissors
- laminator
- lamination pocket
- small container
- toad and log cut outs *below*
This is a relatively easy game to set up once you’ve got everything ready. I printed two copies of the toad and log cutouts and then I laminated them. We are working on adding numbers 0-20 however I’ve included a programmed blank set so you can add your own set if your kiddos are working on numbers 20+ or double digit numbers.
Once it’s set up — arrange a set in the middle of the group and tell them to choose one log at a time and have them find three or two toads to make up the number on the log. You could start off with two single digit numbers and then move onto three. I used both with my students.
The fun part is that students get to count and visualize the numbers as they arrange them! They will tend to remember these because they are more likely to remember the fun toads and logs.
