Looking for some super cute Take What You Need Give What You Can Bulletin Board ideas? Look no further, I have a set of fun ideas that you can use right at the start of school or when you return to school.
I always find that the beginning of school is a great way to start reinforcing social skills and SEL. So a take what you need, give what you can is a great way to encourage kids to practice their social skills.
Take What You Need Bulletin Board
So why this board? I figure the best thing we can do is to help our kids understand the reasons for why they need to learn to GIVE more than take.
How can we teach kids to do this?
Do some joint classroom excursions and field trips to volunteer old clothing / unwanted items.
Show them how it feels to receive something from another person just because they wanted to be nice.
Ask them how it feels to be given something (helpful) when you’re in need.
Act out scenarios to show more reasons why it’s so important.
Another way is to also donate toys, this is a great way to show kids how important it is to show kindness!

Here’s another kindness bulletin board I love, which I set up in every classroom, sometimes even in my small office at home for the kids.
Take what you need activity
When setting up this board, the kids will understand that the sticky notes are for the taking and the balloons are giving.
When they want to ‘take’ something, they will need to ‘give’ something too.
>>> Pick up these free take what you need activity templates with balloons at the end of this post. <<<
In this activity print out, there are balloon templates which you can personalise and add any information to. The students can add what they want to ‘give’ to the balloon and then ‘take’ a note.
They don’t always have to take, but they will always need to give if they are taking something.
Some of these ideas are even a great get to know you activities or all about me activities for back to school.
Take what you need, Give what you can Bulletin Board
Did you know that bulletin board displays are the number one way you can motivate kids in a classroom environment?
They are also a great ice breaker and a significant tool to encourage inclusiveness in your classroom environment.
I love using different themes throughout the year to help brighten up the classroom and create a great inclusive atmosphere that can set the tone for the rest of the year!

This super cute bulletin board is a great way to encourage kids to learn how to appreciate what they have and to also give back to others.
The board features a cut out of balloons which kids will decorate and / write on to show what they have and what they need.
Along with their balloon, they will also identify one thing they can give on a sticky note and place it on the board for others to take.

I love this setup from Laura on Pinterest, it’s a great way to combine SEL with scripture and prayers too.
I LOVE what the school counsellor blog did to this board, she completely made it from sticky notes, because why not??
She also has sticky note print outs for you to use.

Give what you can bulletin board
How this board works is very simple, after the kids create their own balloon crafts with the optional flippable template, they will add this to the board.
Have the kids choose a sticky note and write or draw one thing they can give to others (e.g: a hug, listening ear, apple piece, etc) and place that next to their balloon too.
