The unicorn has the sound ‘yu’ which can confuse the kids, but we’re focused on the letter recognition component in this craft here.

A great way to introduce the letter U to your preschoolers or toddlers is to show them what it looks like.

Draw the letter shape onto the board. Have the kids finger trace the letter.

I like to use a sensory board with some salt in it to have the kids easily form the letter with me.

You begin by saying start at the top then go down and curve to the right, then go up again to the top.

Kids respond to this kind of feedback and training. It’s auditory and sensory.

The cut out templates of the unicorn are super simple in this craft. You will just need the template attached below, grab the scissors some glue and coloring crayons.

And you’re on your way to making a beautiful unicorn to represent the letter U.

DIY Unicorn crafts

If you’re looking for a simple craft that kids can do with little materials, this is the one!

I looked high and low for crafts like these ones when u was teaching and I really wish they were available.

There’s room for error in these crafts because kids can make sure that they glue the unicorn head, and have the rest of the unicorn pieces on the body.

Kids usually understand where the head will go.

I get them to color in the pieces first, you can see the unicorn cut out pieces below before they start to cut them out.
