Verbs and nouns are the basic building blocks of any sentence. They help us form complete thoughts and communicate our ideas to others.

Teaching children verbs and nouns is a crucial step in their language development, which will help them with reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills later on.

Learning verbs and nouns

Teaching nouns is a lot easier than teaching verbs.

Teaching verbs can be difficult, especially because there are so many different types of verbs.

Nouns are typically easier to teach because they have one definition and they can be used in sentences without any issues. Verbs, on the other hand, have many different definitions and it can be difficult to teach all of them.

I love including crafts for my students when I get the chance.

Firstly, there’s the aspect of the students actually remembering what they learned through the craft.

Then secondly, they also have a keepsake that they can store in their folders or notebooks they can look back on.

This scarecrow themed noun and verb sort craft is super easy to make.

Print the templates you want to use with your students, I’ve included a black and white section where you could actually print on yellow paper to save on ink.

Have the students do the rest of the coloring though.

Students will cut their scarecrow templates out, then they will sort the nouns and verbs strips then add them to the scarecrow template underneath the hat.

You could glue the strips to the hat from the back or onto the scarecrow’s head.

Nouns are the names of people, places, things, or ideas. They can be singular or plural.

Verbs are the most important words in a sentence because they tell you what is happening in the sentence.

Verbs also tell you who is doing the action and what is being done. Verbs can be regular or irregular.

Have the students read the words and identify the difference, then sort them.
