Name find it worksheet with school bus activity for preschool and kindergarten name recognition

Students search the school bus windows to find their own name hidden among their classmates’ names. Every time they spot it, they can color the window. It’s easy, visual, and perfect for those first weeks of school when everyone is still learning who is who!

Name Find It Worksheet for Name Recognition

This activity gives kids plenty of opportunities to visually discriminate between different names and identify their own.

Each worksheet features a large school bus filled with names. The student’s name appears several times throughout the bus alongside other names that act as distractors.

Students simply:

  1. Look carefully at each bus window.
  2. Find the windows containing their name.
  3. Color each matching window.
  4. Count how many times they found their name.
  5. Write the total at the bottom of the page.

That little counting section adds an extra early math skill too!

An Easy Back-to-School Name Activity

This name find it worksheet works especially well during back-to-school season because children are practicing their own names while becoming familiar with the names of their classmates.

Add it to your morning work, literacy centers, name recognition lessons, early finisher activities, or independent work tubs.

For preschool and kindergarten students, you can also give children a name card to keep beside them while they search. This provides a visual model and makes the activity accessible for children who are just beginning to recognize their names.

Make It a Hands-On Name Search

You don’t have to stop at coloring!

Have students cover each matching name with a mini eraser, pom-pom, counter, or small manipulative. You could also laminate the pages and let students circle their names using dry-erase markers.

Another fun option is to challenge students to find all their names first and then color the entire school bus. Suddenly a simple name worksheet becomes a much longer independent activity.

Grab the Editable Name Activity

Because every child needs their own version, this activity is designed to make personalized name practice easy. Create worksheets featuring individual student names and use them throughout your name recognition lessons.
