These strips are easy to setup. They range between easy strips with thicker lines to a bit more challenging, thinner lines.

The way to use these is to have the thicker lines to start with when kids are learning to use their scissors, then move onto the harder more challenging lines.

Why are cutting skills important?

It builds fine motor skills and hand strength.  Opening and closing scissors help children build up those muscles in their hands which in turn help them write better,  draw, handwriting, use cutlery,  having a better grasp on things and more.

Why do some children struggle with using scissors?

Some kids use scissors very quickly and they don’t slow down when they are attempting to cut.

Have them actually slow down so that they follow the line with cutting.

Cutting skills for kids is a good way to help them develop their fine motor skills.

It can also teach them how to follow instructions, which is an important life skill.

There are various methods that you can use to teach how to cut. The most common one is cutting paper with scissors. You can also use other materials like foam, construction paper, and cardboard.

How to use these cutting strips

First,  I would print out the Christmas tree strips and then instruct the students that they will need to ‘cut the wood’ to get the tree home.

They will then pick a strip (again, choose the set that is easiest to begin with) and then they will follow the line to cut the strip.  They continue this until all the strips are cut.
