High frequency words worksheets
Why do we need to create sight word practice activities for students? High frequency words are so important in those early years.
Not only do we need students to learn to read the most commonly used words in the English language, but we also want them to recognise them by sight.
This is a great stepping stone for early readers to become more fluent in their literacy acquisition.
What are high frequency words?
High frequency words are the most common words in a language (sight words). They are words that learners can recognize instantly when they see them.
A sight word is a word that is recognized by sight, usually without the need to sound it out or use context clues to decipher its meaning.
Sight words are often the most commonly used words in English, such as “the,” “and,” and “of.”
This simple activity workbook will get kids to read the word, identify it in a sentence and then trace it and write it independently.

These sight word flip books are perfect for early learners.
It took me a while to upload them to TPT as I wanted to make sure they are flawless and they truly deliver.
My students now take them home and read them with their parents and I didn’t even ask them to! If your kids love dot markers, have them do these super fun dot marker sight word activities!
These sight word booklets work just like a normal tab reader would. If kids hate writing, be sure to check out how you can turn that around with simple handwriting games and activities here. .
Hand them out to the students and let them work on these readers.
They kept my students on their toes as they made sure that the tabs ‘fit’ underneath each other. First is read, then trace, write and finally independently write the word without looking.

I’m noticing the names in the stories are not decodable. If we truly want the kiddos reading, the names need to be ones they can decode- Ex- Bob, Jim, Mel, Dot, etc. We do not want them guessing at words.
