Grab the Free Token Board to Pair With This Social Story
If you are using this keeping clothes on social skills story, I highly recommend pairing it with a simple token board. Kids do so much better when there is something visual and concrete they are working toward, especially when we are teaching a new boundary or replacement behavior.

I created a FREE printable token board that you can laminate and use with Velcro coins, real tokens, or even little stars. Your student picks a preferred activity, earns five tokens for demonstrating the expected behavior, and then celebrates reaching their goal in a positive and structured way.
It works beautifully with this story, but honestly, it also works with accepting no, toilet routines, gentle hands, and any other social skill you are teaching. You can grab the free token board below and start using it right away in your classroom or at home.

There are many things that you can do to help your child or little learner with separation anxiety.
For example, you can try giving them something like a teddy bear or blanket before they go off to school. Or you could ask the parent to provide this.
The item will remind them of home and make them feel more secure.
You might also want to include an extra note of reassurance in the lunchbox or backpack before they go off to school.
These lunchbox notes are perfect for when they are feeling apprehensive during the day!
Social Skills Story Leaving Mum
Kids don’t like to leave their surroundings or their familiar surroundings. Help them by reading a storybook together in the weeks leading up to their first day of school.
You could also continue reading this book anytime you find that they show some anxiety when it comes to leaving their home.

This social skills story also includes the ways in which kids get to school.
The ones that are listed include by bus, by car or walking.
There are several different options provided along with options for worksheets and mini books for further understanding.
My favorite part of these books is giving a child some positive reinforcement with these fun sticker certificates.
They are editable and they include he / she cards to add the names for each child.
Once they fill up the sticker certificate, they could get an incentive. These are editable!

Separation Anxiety Social Skills Story
Children are often afraid of separation from their parents and this is a natural response. There are many ways to help kids with separation anxiety.
One way is to provide them with a transitional object. This could be something like a blanket or stuffed animal that the child will associate with their parent and can use when they are feeling nervous about being away from the parent.
Another way is to give them plenty of activities to help mitigate this separation for them, like social stories.
I love reading these stories to my students during the first few weeks of school!
Another helpful way is to reassure the child that they will be coming back soon.
This could be done by letting them know that they will be visiting them again soon or by giving them a calendar and showing them where they will visit next on it.
