Goose Calm Down Craft

We all feel like a silly goose sometimes! We might become frustrated, worried, overly excited, grumpy, or completely overwhelmed. Young children experience those same big emotions, but they do not always have the words to explain what is happening.

This social-emotional learning craft gives children a funny and nonthreatening character through which they can explore those feelings.

The goose includes a changeable face that students can use to show different emotions. Children can select an expression, identify the feeling, and discuss what may have caused it.

Try using prompts such as:

  • How is the goose feeling?
  • What happened to make the goose feel this way?
  • What might the goose’s body feel like?
  • What could help the goose calm down?
  • Who could the goose ask for help?
  • What could the goose say or do next?
