Christmas in July Activities for Kids

Why Christmas in July? In many countries, particularly in the Southern Hemisphere, December falls during the summer months.

However, the concept of celebrating Christmas in July has gained popularity globally as a way to experience the magic of the holiday season twice a year.

Incorporating Christmas-themed activities during the summer not only keeps the festive spirit alive but also adds an element of surprise and excitement for children.

Reading and Storytelling: Utilize the enchanting world of Christmas literature to engage children in reading and storytelling.

Choose classic and contemporary Christmas books that captivate young minds with their colorful illustrations and heartwarming tales.

Some recommended books include “The Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” by Dr. Seuss, and “The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey” by Susan Wojciechowski.

Fun Christmas Activities in Summer

Crafty Decorations: Encourage children to create Christmas decorations that suit the summer theme.

For instance, instead of snowflakes, they can make paper suns or seashell ornaments.

This activity enhances their fine motor skills while allowing them to express their creativity.

Sensory Play: Create a Christmas sensory bin using materials associated with both Christmas and summer.

Fill it with red and green sand, seashells, jingle bells, and miniature beach toys.

Children can explore the textures, sounds, and colors while engaging in imaginative play.

Water Play: Transform water play into a Christmas adventure by adding red and green food coloring to water tables or kiddie pools.

Provide children with festive water toys, such as rubber ducks dressed as Santa or reindeer. This refreshing activity combines the joy of water play with the excitement of Christmas.

How to Use the Letter Identification Clip Cards:

What are Clip Cards? Clip cards are versatile and interactive learning tools that promote letter identification skills.

They typically consist of a set of cards with letters printed on them, along with corresponding options to clip or mark the correct answer.

These cards can be customized to focus on specific letters or letter combinations, making them adaptable to different learning levels.

Introducing the Activity: Print out the Christmas in July-themed letter identification clip cards, which are available for free on our blog.

Cut out the individual cards and laminate them for durability. Prepare clothespins or clips for children to use as markers.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

a. Read: Sit with the child and read the prompt on each card aloud. Encourage them to repeat the letter after you, emphasizing the sound and shape of the letter.

b. Clip: Ask the child to identify the correct letter among the options provided and clip a clothespin onto the corresponding letter on the card. This action enhances their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

c. Write: After successfully identifying and clipping the correct letter, invite the child to practice writing the letter on a separate piece of paper. Provide guidance and support as needed, emphasizing correct letter formation.

Expanding Learning Opportunities: To extend the activity, incorporate phonics by associating each letter with its corresponding sound.

Encourage the child to identify words that start with the featured letter and practice writing those words.
